On December 16, 2015, Elena Torfs, postdoctoral fellow with the modelEAU team, received the Minerva Award from Ghent University for the excellence of the education she has provided therein.
The Minerva Award is part of distinctions Ghent University has been giving each year to its employees since 2011 to reward the quality of their initiatives and their ongoing commitment: the Minerva Award for education, the Prometheus Award for research, and the Hermes Award for social and scientific services. All the students and staff of the university were asked to nominate their favorites in each of the award categories. An advisory committee then appointed the nine winners. On December 16, the awardees were all celebrated at an awards ceremony.
Elena distinguished herself by her enthusiastic devotion to her extensive teaching duties; she has been able to teach complex subjects in a clear and interesting way. "A great achievement for a young Ph.D. student," the jury said.
