Peter Vanrolleghem, holder of the Canada Research Chair on Water Quality Modelling, is awarded the 2015 WEF President Award.

Peter Vanrolleghem is one of only two members of the 115 delegates of Water Environment Federation (WEF)'s House of Delegates to receive the prestigious 2015 President's Award! The only other delegate honored was the current Speaker of the House of Delegates.

Peter was honored at WEFTEC 2015, Chicago, for outstanding contributions to both his Member Association (Réseau Environnement) and and to helping Ed and WEF achieve high priority global partnership and young professional engagement goals, which were established by the 2015 Board of Trustees under Ed's leadership.

President McCormick recognized Peter for the following significant contributions to WEF and to the global water sector both in 2015 and throughout his career:

  • Organized an extremely high quality WEFMAX event in Quebec City, including having primary responsibility for an exceptional Young Professionals Summit held the day prior to the meeting.
  • Played a critical role in strengthening an important global partnership between WEF and the International Water Association (IWA).
  • Worked with Réseau Environnement and WEF to promptly start implementing several highly creative initiatives to improve the financial position and strengthen the MA-WEF bond in the process.
  • Made countless important contributions to the global water sector through both the impeccable quality and quantity of research that has significantly added to the body of environmental engineering knowledge worldwide.
  • By any measure (including impact of his research), Peter is one of the most highly respected environmental engineering university professors in the world. He has generously given his time over the years to personally encourage young professionals to make a difference in the water sector, and has successfully developed and mentored numerous water professionals who have become water sector leaders.
  • Going "beyond the call of duty" as a loyal, hard-working volunteer, often on his own time (and out of his own bank account), to provide exceptional leadership and work products for his Member Association, WEF, IWA and other professional water associations.
