Research fields :

Wim Audenaert holds a master’s degree in industrial engineering and obtained a PhD degree in applied biological sciences at Ghent University, Belgium, in 2012.

The yargEAU project seeks to elucidate the fate of contaminants of emerging concern (CECs) in a variety of wastewater treatment systems. The primary objective was to find suitable treatment schemes and favourable operational settings to limit the environmental impact. Wim focused on the modelling of advanced oxidation techniques. These chemical techniques are able to destroy the target compounds directly. Model-based design and optimization can significantly contribute to (cost-)effective operation. Much modelling work still has to be conducted.
