Andreia Neves do Amaral received her master degree in Chemical Engineering from Coimbra University, Portugal in 2008. After graduation, she joined MARETEC at Instituto Superior Técnico, Portugal as a researcher. In September 2014, she started her PhD studies on aeration modelling in wastewater tretament as joint PhD at Ghent University, Belgium (BIOMATH) and Instituto Superior Técnico (MARETEC). She became a Doctor of Applied Biological Sciences/Environmental Engineering in the Summer of 2019.

She began her post-doc in Juin 2019 in the InnovaReg project's: Investigating the impact of innovative nutrient regulations for environmental protection on the operation and design of wastewater treatment plants, together with stakeholdersfrom the utility sector, government and consultancy in the USA.
