Master

Projects :
Integrating river ecohydraulics in urban stormwater management

Research fields :

Marie master's project was: "Stormwater management : integrating quality and real time control".

This project aimed to integrate real-time control in stormwater quality management in order to reduce urban pollution in receiving water bodies. Stormwater pond detains runoff events and also remove pollutant primaly through sedimentation. In urban catchment, stormwater quality management will be done in a stormwater pond, with a gate at its outlet orifice, opened with real-time control, depending of weather forecasts and pond volume, through control rules, in order to increase hydraulic retention time of the pond. Once increased, sedimentation efficiency will be improved, mostly for fine particles, on which many pollutants attach and which settle very slowly. By increasing sedimentation, a major part of the pollutants will be removed, and treated water will be released, decreasing pollution in receiving water bodies. Integrating this solution to stormwater quality management will increase water quality in urban rivers and reduce negative impacts to aquatic and riparian ecosystems.
