Integrating river ecohydraulics in urban stormwater management

Research fields :

It is now known that surface waters in urban environment represent a considerable source of pollution for the receiving rivers. Thus, the concerns are growing towards their good management. Retaining tanks are most usually used to achieve it. The characterization of the pollutants contained in those waters should help optimize the modelling of their behavior inside the tanks. The parameters considered to be most relevant are the nature of the pollutants (nutrients, heavy metals, suspended matter, pathogenics), the distribution of the size and of the settling velocity of the particles. Since sedimentation is the main treatment process of the rain water in the basin, it has been studied with attention. The settling velocity of the particles' measurement protocol selected for the realization of this work is the ViCAs protocol. The comparison of all these parameters has provided better characterization of the evolution of pollution in the basin. The future analysis connected to these measurements has allowed to define the aims of the project "Integrating river ecohydraulics in urban stormwater management".
