Monitoring, understanding, modelling and improving the KAMAK wastewater treatmen

Research fields :

Thomas Maere received his Master degree in Bioscience Engineering at Ghent University (Belgium) in 2006. In 2007 he became research assistant at the BIOMATH research unit at Ghent University, working on the model-based optimisation of conventional wastewater treatment plants. He started his PhD mandate at the same department on the subject of membrane bioreactor modelling in 2008, followed by a postdoctorate in 2012 on various membrane-related subjects.

The yargEAU project seeks to elucidate the fate of contaminants of emerging concern in a variety of wastewater treatment systems. The primary objective is to find suitable treatment schemes and favorable operational settings to limit the environmental impact.  The innEAUreg project deals with regulation and its effect on the design and operation of wastewater treatment plants in a global perspective. Based on an extensive literature review on international regulations, the barriers to innovation will be highlighted and addressed.
