Ignasi was studying Industrial Engineering at the University of Girona, Spain, where he  conducted his thesis on the design of wastewater treatment plants at ICRA (Girona, Spain) and modelEAU at Université Laval (Quebec, Canada).

The comparison was done between "Metcal&Eddy" and "Grady/Daigger/Lim" design guidelines for  wastewater treatment plants, specially for the Modified Ludzack-Ettinger configuration of the activated sludge process. The objectif of his project was to compare the different guidelines with respect to inherent safety through comparison with predictions obtained with the Activated Sludge Model no.1 (ASM1).
