In 2003, Jesus received his bachelor degree in electronics engineering from the Simon Bolivar University, Venezuela. In 2009 and 2011, he received his M.Sc. degree in environmental technologies and his Ph.D. degree in industrial engineering from the University of Navarra, Spain.

One area of his research involved the integration of on-line monitoring and fault detection (FD) modules in the current and future monEAU stations. This also involved the development of new FD techniques. Another area involved the testing and development of control strategies in ASPs.
