Mostafa completed B.Sc. in Civil Engineering with Environmental Engineering major from Ain Shams University in 2013. He worked as Environmental design engineer for consultancy companies, and teaching-research assistant in the same university where he completed his M.Sc. in 2017. He started his PhD in 2019 under supervision of Yang Liu and co-supervised by Peter Vanrolleghem.

Mostafa’s PhD combines modelling and experimental work focusing on the optimization of greywater biological treatment using an oxygen-based membrane biofilm reactor (O2-MBfR). The study aims to both optimize the design of O2-MBfR and develop a biofilm model that is calibrated for greywater application.
